Hand-In-Hand Initiative

The Nepal Food Forum highlights the Hand-in-Hand Initiative as a key strategy to scale high-impact agricultural value chains, which in turn boosts productivity, climate resilience, and equitable growth.

The Hand-in-Hand (HIH) Initiative, FAO’s flagship program, is a country-led and evidence-based approach to accelerating agricultural transformation and sustainable rural development. It operates on the principle that strategic resource allocation, guided by reliable data and partnerships, can deliver transformational change even with limited financial inputs. The initiative’s geospatial platform uses advanced analytics to identify priority areas and high-potential products that align with Nepal’s national development priorities. By mapping opportunities in production, processing, and market access, HIH provides the investment intelligence needed to design impactful interventions that generate strong economic returns, improve livelihoods, and protect natural resources.

At the Nepal Food Forum 2025, the Hand-in-Hand Investment Dialogue will serve as the event’s flagship platform for fostering high-level collaboration. This session will convene the Government of Nepal, private sector leaders, development partners, international financial institutions (IFIs), and development finance institutions (DFIs) to discuss targeted investment opportunities in Nepal’s agri-food system. Through matchmaking between investors and projects, the dialogue will facilitate concrete partnerships aimed at scaling priority value chains, enhancing climate resilience, and boosting rural incomes. The expected outcome is a pipeline of transformative investments that can accelerate Nepal’s journey toward a more prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable agriculture sector. This collaboration will also strengthen policy alignment and create an enabling environment for sustained investment. Ultimately, it supports Nepal’s broader goals of food security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
